Karakus Marakus was a thing of absolute beauty- the cutting edge of musical innovation right there for the kaleidoscopic pleasure of all the chuffed, space bound ravers. Colour me impressed and delighted it all went better than any expectations that i was able to summon – We even got Lost In The Mud.
The Build
On arrival for the build the roles of all the volunteers seemed unclear, so I ended up taking charge of several aspects, most important of which ended up being the chill zone alter which was my impromptu brain child. A crucified Mickey Mouse was being detained by snakes winding on cross shaped swords, strung up helplessly. From the ground rose a weaved tower of wooden construction coming to reclaim the lost icon to the earth from which it arose, sprouting flowers from his back.
The reactions
The reactions to my impromptu art installation were wide and varied. Something about a desecration of a childhood icon of greed and commercialism spoke deeply to the elevated minds which stumbled across the alter, to each in its own way. The reactions ranged from “bro, that’s just too intense”, to the more common, “poor mickey how could they do this to him?” all the way through to really passionate exclamations of “this thing is so messed up, you understand this ICON HAS NO SOUL” by a rather passionate and terrifyingly beautiful Latina goddess.
This was the only intensely negative response. The overwhelmingly positive assessments ranged from ‘this….is….art” to “cool… mannnn….” all the way through to “love your work”, to ensnaring one of my favourite festival buddies in my web of trippy. All in all, a space that created some conversation and revealed and potentially relieved some inner tensions bubbling up in the community.
An Opinion
One of our fellow helpers, the sister Serina relayed a tale of misadventure. It goes as follows. She was happily wondering in the gorge between the visual projection zone a beautiful human was handling and the chill zone when she stepped on a cord and pulled power to the lights illuminating the cavernous space between the areas. In the dark her experience kicked in, and she fumbled her way to the glowing oasis of the chillout zone.
Wet, muddy, she stumbled across the UV paradise, feeling safe and comforted in this psychedelic spider web woven by a magician. It was then she decided to look around and inspect the other refugees from the storm and the chaos. What a place, what an experience, just pure magic!
