I recently listened to The Weeknd’s latest album on a long drive through the picturesque countryside of Aotearoa, NZ and for the most part I wanted to stop the car, get out & dance.
โHurry Up Tomorrowโ is a far cry from his previous more Pop/RnB driven albums. In fact this one feels like itโs straight out of the 80s with heavy synths & dance beats.
And the first song delivers just that. โWake Me Upโ honestly screams trauma & cocaine (like most of the album) but damn does this one hit hard and Iโm here for it.
The Weeknd & Justice – Wake Me Up
Teaming up with powerhouse French Electro duo – Justice, this track will get you moving or taking your clothes off. When the beat drops itโs a straight rip of Michael Jacksonโs Thriller but who cares? It made me feel like the first time I heard Thriller. Euphoric, unable to keep still, electric!
It really seems like this is the sister song to his mega hits Canโt Feel My Face & Blinding Lights, dark melancholic lyrics paired with a demon of a dance track that will get you going. This is what The Weeknd does best.
I highly recommend chucking this song (and the rest of the album) on when youโre starting your next bender or simply your weekend. I promise you wonโt be disappointed.
