Choosing an Awesome Laser for your space can be a daunting task, there are many factors to consider. In this Edition of The Ravers Co Blog we will talk about some of the biggest factors that will affect your choice of lasers before we talk about setting lasers up or creating our own content for our lasers in the next edition of our Laser Show System Series.
To decide which Laser Show Unit is best for your space, the first thing you need to consider, and what Wattage you will need. Lasers start at wattages lower than 1 Watt, and go up to around 30 Watts with a number of other features, such as the scanning rate, and beam angles. We will delve deeper into these features later in this Episode, for now we will be Choosing an Awesome Laser for your space.
If you’re looking for something to use at home, you’re best to use a 3 Watt Laser Show System or less, as low as .5 Watts. RGB Laser Show Systems use three individual lasers, a Red Laser, Green Laser, and a Blue Laser. This means the power is divided by three, for example a 3 Watt Laser has three individual 1 Watt Lasers, but this is not always evenly divided, for example some of our 15 Watt Lasers have 1 x Red 4 Watt, 1 x Green 4 Watt, and 1 x Blue 7 Watt Laser.
Blue lasers have usually got a higher wattage to make colours more vivid, and strong, and ensure full power blue beams. With this in mind, think about your space is it small, medium or large? This size estimate will determine the power output you will require from your lasers. Small spaces such as bars and pubs will do best with laser systems under 10 Watts Somewhere between 3 Watts and 5 Watts is optimal. We will make a laser expert out of you yet!
Medium Sized spaces, as as Large Pubs, and small Warehouses will work well with Laser Show System 15 Watts and Under, but above 5 Watts. For Large spaces like large warehouses and outdoor events 10 Watts is probably the minimum you want, realistically 15 Watts is better and 30 Watts is the best for Large Outdoor Spaces, and Stadiums. With this information you will be well on your way to Choosing an Awesome Laser!
After you’ve decided what size lasers you will be using, the next thing to consider; symmetry! Using a single laser unit, never really creates the type of captivating experience that we are after, so we will need at least two Laser Show Units. If you use more than two units, you can decrease the power of the individual units.
For example imagine you had a medium sized space that had high ceilings. If you were only going to use two laser units to the left and right of the main entertainment, you may consider using 15 Watt Units, but if you were going to have four laser show units either two on each side of the main entertainment or two at the front and two at the rear, we would recommend using 4 x 10 Watt Units.
The number of units you can use is dictated by the space, and by symmetry, now that we have decided how many, and what Wattage Laser Show Systems we are going to use. We need to consider a number of points such as, what is it that we would like to achieve, do we want a simple automated sound active laser show?
What are our requirements, and how are they affected by the space we intend on using the lasers in? Will we be running a more complex laser show using ILDA, DMX, or both ILDA, and DMX?
